This is the first time the BIR and Bayer have collaborated to create an opportunity for an AI Fellowship. This rare opening provides a week in industry to learn and see the work that goes into creating products for customers. It allows you to meet experts in industry, ask questions and learn about the obstacles they face.
Dr
Ahmed Maiter is a radiology resident and clinical research fellow in Sheffield. His academic interests span multiple areas of AI for radiology, with a particular focus on evaluating commercial devices and benchmarking performance. He had a fantastic experience participating in this fellowship and received the award at the BIR AI Congress at the end of March. He commented on the flexibility of the programme and discussed the time he spent with Bayer and Calantic (Bayer’s cloud-based platform of radiology AI applications).
Dr Maiter said: “The BIR AI Fellowship was an enjoyable and rewarding experience. My time with Bayer provided valuable insights into healthcare industry and broadened my perspective on AI in radiology. Through a variety of meetings and workshops, I was able to explore a range of topics related to AI, such as product design, return-on-investment, evaluation frameworks and regulation. I’m grateful to the BIR for the award, and to the Bayer team who ensured that I felt included throughout. The AI Fellowship is a fantastic opportunity, and I encourage anyone who is interested to apply.”
