BJR|Open receives impressive first impact factor of 2.1

BJR|Open, the fully open access research journal of the British Institute of Radiology (BIR), has received its first ever impact factor of 2.1, following the 2025 Clarivate Journal Citation Reports announcement. The journal is ranked 106/212 in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine & Medical Imaging category, securing a spot in the second quartile. This is a clear indication of the quality of content published, and is an exciting key milestone for the journal.

The BIR would like to thank everyone involved in the publishing process: all editors, reviewers, readers who have cited the papers, and authors who have contributed them. Special thanks go to theBJR|Openexpert Editorial Board who are absolutely integral to the journal’s achievements and are vital to its future aspirations.

The impact factor of an academic journal is a scientometric index that reflects the yearly mean number of citations of articles published in the last two years in a given journal, as indexed by Clarivate's Web of Science.

BJR|Open Editor-in-Chief (Medical), Professor Katja Pinker, said “We are delighted to reach this exciting milestone for BJR|Open, and look forward to seeing the journal continue to grow and develop in the coming years. Thanks must go to all editors, reviewers, authors and readers for making this happen.”

We hope to see more high-quality manuscripts submitted for consideration and look forward to the bright future BJR|Open holds.”
