Sir Godfrey Hounsfield memorial lecture

Established in 1997 in honour of Sir Godfrey Hounsfield and his pioneering work in computed tomography, this lecture was initially endowed by Dr Marion Frank OBE, and subsequently funded by a bequest from Sir Godfrey Hounsfield. Nominations can be for a BIR Member of any age and discipline and the lecture carries a stipend of £1,000. The subject of the lecture should be an account of a major recent advance in radiology and its allied sciences and it is usually given at the BIR's Annual Congress.

2018 award

Professor André Dekker will deliver the 2018 lecture at the BIR's Annual Congress in November. Professor Dekker is a full professor of Clinical Data Science at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. The proposed title for his lecture is 'Big Data for Better Cancer Care'.    

2017 award

GH 2017 - Gareth Davies

The winner of the 2017 award, Dr Gareth Davies, delivered his lecture “Early cancer diagnosis - can radiology make a difference?” at the BIR's Annual Congress in November 2017. He spoke about his recent work leading on diagnostic service improvement to benefit patient cancer outcomes for the Wales Cancer Network. He demonstrated how the UK compares to health care systems in Europe, in particular Denmark and to other continents.
