The British Institute of Radiology offers membership to
all professionals with an interest in the field
of radiology; whether you are a radiologist, radiographer,
medical physicist, radiotherapist or oncologist, there is a

FULL MEMBERSHIP
We have a two-tiered structure for Full
members. Full members are categorised according to whether
they are 'Consultants or equivalent' grade or 'Other'
grades.
Consultant or Equivalent Grade - £170
Consultant radiologists
Consultant oncologists and radiotherapists
Consultant scientists and other medical
Scientific and radiographer staff of Grade 8b and above
Full Member - Other Grades - £60
All other medical, scientific and radiographer staff
of Agenda for Change equivalent Grade 8a and below

account, please use the link 'Sign Up Online' in the Menu
section on the left hand side.
Members living overseas are requested where possible to pay by
international draft, personal cheque, Eurocheque in sterling, or
Mastercard/Visa.
STUDENT AND TRAINEE
MEMBERSHIP
The subscription fee for students
and trainees accords with the level and year of
training. Undergraduates and full time students are eligible
for free membership.
Undergraduate and full time students - Free
Year 1 - £12
Year 2-3 - £24
Year 4+ - £48
Applicants must be residing in the UK and enrolled on a
UK based training scheme. The precise criteria will
vary according to the individual's profession:
Medical students and junior doctors: with an
interest in medical imaging and enrolled on a UK-based training
programme.
Radiologists and Oncologists: if you are a medical
graduate who is undertaking a 5-year training course towards
FRCR in clinical radiology or clinical oncology.
Radiographers: if you are undertaking either
a 3-year BSc or are within your first 2 years as a
radiographer or practitioner, and those undertaking a 2-year
foundation degree or are within their first 3 years as an assistant
practitioner. Also if you are an MSc, PhD or DProf student or
within your first year of graduation of a postgraduate
programme.
Medical Physicists: if you are an MSc
student or a graduate undertaking the IPEM Part 1 or Part 2
training; or similar, if you are a PhD student, or if you are an
MSc graduate within your first year as a clinical
scientist/engineer.

ELECTION PROCESS
Applications for membership are considered by BIR Officers
and Council, who propose and second applications. Following which
all applicants will be deemed elected unless there are any
objections from existing members before the next Council
meeting.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
Fee-paying subscriptions to the BIR are renewed on the
anniversary of your joining date.
A renewal notice will be sent to you prior to
this date. The preferred method of payment is by direct debit
or online payment by credit or debit card (including American
Express). Payment can also be made by cheque drawn on UK bank
account.
The annual renewal process is an ideal
opportunity for our members to log in to their BIR account
and update their personal details to ensure that they receive our
regular e-Bulletins and quarterly BJR News.
