Company Profile:

As part of the Berlin based international pharmaceutical company Schering AG, Schering was established in the UK in 1955. It is responsible for the clinical development, marketing and distribution of the Schering range of ethical pharmaceuticals in the UK from its offices in Burgess Hill, West Sussex.

Its portfolio of diagnostic agents currently offers ionic contrast media to delineate the vascular and renal systems as well as the GI and biliary tracts. Our non-ionic agent launched in the UK in 1988 has greatly reduced the adverse effects that resulted from the older high osmolar agents. Magnetic Resonance Imaging plays an important role in diagnosis, and Schering was the first company to introduce an intravenous MRI contrast agent based on the element Gadolinium.

Since Autumn 2000, Schering have offered a range of radioisotopes that marked our entry into the only area of diagnostic imaging in which Schering had no presence. In addition the radiopharmaceutical portfolio includes therapeutic isotopes that bridge the gap between diagnosis and therapy.

By entering nuclear imaging, Schering are now engaged in all four segments of the in vivo diagnostic business: X-ray, MRI, ultrasound and nuclear medicine.
